Hammad Nasar, Curator, writer, and Senior Research Fellow, recently wrote an article for Take on Art, India’s foremost Arts magazine. Hammad, who is Lahore-born and London-based, reflects from a personal perspective, concluding a seven-year research project aimed at addressing the neglect of South Asian contributions in British art history or, to quote Hammad - the “empire-shaped hole” in British Art history. To illustrate the potential of South Asian identity and art, the author highlights three recent works by South Asian artists exhibited in Britain, one of which is Billy’s artwork – Dayshift.
