[Traveller, Your Footprints]

[Traveller, Your Footprints] was Billy Dosanjh's first major solo exhibition, held at the New Art Exchange (NAE) in Nottingham from September 2022 to January 2023. Curated with an accompanying exhibition guide featuring critical writing by Melanie Kidd.

The show brought together the full body of The Exiles large-format photographic tableaux for the first time — five panoramic composite images, each constructed from hundreds of individual source photographs. These works reconstruct scenes of domestic and industrial life experienced by South Asian empire workers who arrived in the Black Country during the 1960s.

The exhibition also featured the premiere screening of Indi (2022), a 16-minute artist film commissioned by FLAMIN (Film London Artists' Moving Image Network) and funded by Arts Council England. Set in the mid-1990s, the film charts the world of an emigré mother and her British-born son who dreams of playing football for England.

A dedicated publication accompanied the show, featuring an extended conversation between Dosanjh and curator Melanie Kidd exploring the conceptual and material processes behind the work.
